[뉴스노트] 8월 둘째 주 (8/7-8/11)

이번주 가장 충격적인 뉴스는 하와이 화재사건이다. 수많은 사람들이 사망하고 다치고, 재산을 잃었으며 아름다운 자연이 파괴되었다. 인터뷰를 한 어떤 사람은 7월 말에 집을 샀는데 새 집에 한 번도 가지 못했다고 한다. 물론 목숨이 건재한 것은 다행이지만, 그 마음이 어떨지 상상조차 가지 않는다. 더 이상 사상자가 발생하지 않고, 하와이가 하루빨리 재건하면 좋겠다. 건강하고 무탈한 하루가 정말 축복받은 삶이라고 다시 한번 느낀다.

아무튼, 몇일 빠졌지만 이번주 뉴스 메모해 둔 것을 올려본다.

  • Songs dating from before 1978 can revert to their creator or heirs after 56 years, and songs from after 1978 can revert to the creator or heirs after 35 years, provided they file the proper paperwork
  • artists and songwriters — or their heirs, if they are deceased — are required to serve the U.S. Copyright Office and their current music publisher or record company a termination notice at least two years before the songs turn 35 or 56, and they cannot enter any agreement with a third party before their current contract is terminated. Whoever has been holding those rights has the right of first refusal to acquire them.
